Egotism and Revision

I like the second half of the first chapter of the novel I’m revising, I like the entire second chapter, I like the second half of the third chapter. The difference between the first and third chapters is how much I like the build up in the third one. It works. There’s no momentum in the first one. There could easily be momentum, I wish I’d thought about it at the time, but the problem with a novel instead of a short story is the amount of revising attention. Still, it occurs to me I made major changes in the second draft to the last third of the plot so I clearly did notice a problem somewhere. I’m not sure why I let the first chapter, first half slip so much. I’ve known it needed work.
