I just gave myself like fifteen minutes to figure something out. Not for a new project, but for something I’ve been meaning to do at Stop Button and I really hadn’t thought about it in a while. When I was in high school, we’d have to show our work on how we did research. This step, that step. I never appreciated it. I’m not sure I even consciously appreciated it in college. Probably not because I never got around to liking thesis statements. Proving a point always seemed like the least engaging thing to do with a piece of writing. Persuasive statements. I didn’t do well in my junior year journalism class in high school either. I have a funny story from MFA school about it—persuasive statements, thesis writing. Funny only because it was one of those times I knew the answer was wrong but I didn’t know why exactly.
