When I was in my teens, An Affair to Remember was rediscovered. Sleepless in Seattle, right? Then the Beatty/Bening remake. I’ve seen none of them. Well, I saw Sleepless in Seattle once. Anyway, Technicolor melodramas got to be a thing again, requiring thought about them. My best friend and I were against melodrama. In theory, going backwards in film viewing should be the best but it’s not. The fifties and sixties need context only the thirties and forties can give them, otherwise you might be against melodrama all together. I’m not even against camp; I can’t be against melodrama.
